Abstract

Until the proclamation of Independence and the creation of the first independent Albanian state on the eve of the twentieth century, Albania had no opportunity to prepare soldiers or military personnel inside the country and the reasons for that were numerous. Firstly because it had no army and therefore no national military school in which it could educate and form military personnel who would serve for the purposes of protecting the country and the Albanian people. But for these reasons, consequently and unfortunately, it could not be realized in Albania in those years, but even during the 40’s, the qualification of military personnel in academia or post-academic universities. The reasons were the same as above; there was no educational institution of these magnitudes and levels. For these reasons, in those years, since the beginnings of the Albanian Armed Forces, designed and created with the initiative and support of the Provisional Government of Vlora, formed on December 4th, 1912, both dramatic and historical for Albanians, the largest part of the Albanian soldiers came from the military school and from the Turkish Army. Out of that army emerged and served in the service of the Albanian National Army and Gendarmerie in formation, nearly 70 officers and 150 sub-officers. Among them, in the pages of Albanian military history, the name of General Mehmet Pashë Deralla (Tetova) (1843-1919) was also written.
