The fanciful in Mitrush Kuteli and Nikolaj Gogol

Abstract

The artistic world of Kuteli is a world as similar to reality as fanciful. The typical of a fantastic text is not the simple presence of supernatural beings or phenomena, but a process of hesitation taking place between him and the reader, when the latter has to perceive introduced occurrences. Also by Gogol the fanciful is masterly used and with a special and rare originality. It doesn’t stay out of everyday life, but it is mixed with it in such a way that you cannot distinguish where is the truth and where is fiction. The way the material is treated reminds you of the fanciful in Gogol in whom in the mean time a ridiculous and tragic fanciful, of fairy tales, of folk believes emerged. An often appearing character in Gogol’s texts is the devil.
