Abstract

In contexts where the right to education in the Albanian language remains limited—such as in North Macedonia—media play a vital compensatory role, particularly in the field of language instruction. Beyond their informative function, Albanian-language media have actively engaged in a linguistic and educational mission. The editors of “Radio Skopje” and the newspaper Flaka have been aware of this responsibility and have often used media platforms as alternative “classrooms” for the acquisition of the Albanian language. Both institutions have created specialized sections aimed at promoting and standardizing Albanian, significantly contributing to raising linguistic aëareness among the Albanian-speaking public. As early as the 1970s, Flaka had launched the column “What the Albanian Professor Says,” while “Radio Skopje” has broadcast segments such as “How We Speak Our Language” and the program “Our Language” (2022). These initiatives demonstrate a longstanding tradition of using media as tools for linguistic education—a mission that continues to this day.
