Abstract

The Old Man And The Sea, by Ernest Hemingway, was published in 1952 and was awarded the 1953 Pulitzer Prize for fiction. A year later, in 1954, Hemingway was given the Nobel Prize in Literature “for his Mmastery of the art of narrative, most recently demonstrated in The Old Man and the Sea ...” After such a big success and a long and well accomplished career, a few years later, on a Sunday, the morning July 2nd 1961, Hemingway put two shells in the Boss shotgun then lowered the gun butt carefully to the floor, leaned forward and with the barrels of the gun in his mouth depressed the triggers.
