Urban modernization with socialist features of traditional albanian cities

Abstract

The period of socialist modernization of Albania will be the focus of this article, and precisely one of its most representative occurrences, such as treatment of urban inheritance of the past and planning for its urban remodeling with socialist features. In its entirety, the urban modernization of Albania, in the period after the Second World War, was conceived and treated in its forty-fifth year continuity as a political propaganda which consists of ideological messages. The connecting thread of all urban occurrences of the socialist period would be modernity as a vision and modernization as a mission, as well as the attempt to enable their materialization in the Albanian territory and society with the mediation of the communist ideology and political system of state socialism. This ideological approach led to the centralization by the state of all concrete concepts, policies, projects and initiatives for the treatment of urban heritage of traditional cities and their urban remodeling, their modernization, but from which it severed ties with the past.
