The journal “Studime Filologjike” (Philological Studies) – language training school
Abstract
Some of our linguists have started their career as researchers by publishing their first writings in the journal “Philological Studies”. Since their first steps, every author has benefited from the discussions of their articles on the editorial board of the journal, from the thoughts, ideas, comments and advices of our scientific “fathers”, who taught us step by step how to understand the science of scientific methodology, how to have a wider knowledge of the Albanological heritage and how to get a deeper grasp of the Albanian language itself. The editorial board, like the journal itself, was truly a school of higher scientific qualification, firstly, with the works presented for publication, which were discussed there; secondly, with the discussions of our professors, which were a rich source of data and much more qualitative. Their discussions on the editorial board of this journal, and furthermore in the scientific sectors and the scientific council were a valuable help, a real school for our scientific shaping. Our professors were led by the spirit and the purpose of growing the values of published scientific papers. Even the professors sent their work to the editorial board of this journal. All these made the editorial board a scientific environment of open discussions. The discussions were always free and of a high level. “Studime Filologjike” journal was always a summary of studies usually of high quality. Each issue of the journal had the value of a monograph. The studies, scientific articles and papers on lexicology, lexicography, phraseology and lexical semantics covered almost all the field of scientific research. Interdisciplinary issues, such as lexicon-semantic developments in historical and ethno-cultural terms, as well as the relation of Albanian language with other languages, Albanian etymological studies, features of Albanian lexicon in different periods of the Albanian society development, the intercommunication of lexical semantics and grammar, the combination of lexicon-stylistics with the literary stylistics, the lexicon legacy and neology, linguistic norm and culture in lexicon and so on. In all the studies and in our scientific career the journal has always pushed us forward to higher quality. The quality of the scientific product has been the greatest value of this journal. Of course, the first requirements for the articles were for the content, the scientific analysis and argumentation, for the truth of the final facts. The requirements were equally strong for a normative language, for a rich and flawless language, a pure vocabulary, unified terminology etc. In this way, the discussions in the editorial board of the journal were also a “school” for a better command over literary Albanian and for the perfection of scientific discourse, for the cultivation of the standard language. Therefore, its influence in the relevant areas has been strong. This journal which was well known even abroad has made history with its prestige out of all scientific Albanological organs. At the end of the this paper the author makes several proposals to expand the collaboration of the journal, for a better structure and a better functioning of the editorial board, to find a way to spread the scientific achievements of the magazine etc.Downloads
